Upcycle Everything: Designing Puff Paint & Upcycle
Our signature creative session starts from a radical idea: the materials already exist. Here’s how we’re designing it.
The premise
Puff Paint & Upcycle is a hands-on session where members paint, build, and remake using reclaimed materials: offcut wood, rescued frames, leftover textiles, and whatever the city was about to throw away. Nothing precious, everything possible. Sustainability you can hold in your hands.
Design rule one: waste is a design flaw
Every session is planned backwards from its trash. If we can’t reuse it, compost it, or send it home with someone, it doesn’t come through the door. That constraint turns out to be creatively useful: limitations make better art.
Design rule two: the materials have stories
A frame from a demolished brownstone, fabric from a closed dance studio, wood from a decommissioned set. We label where things came from, because provenance is part of the piece. The culture carried these materials before we did; we’re just giving them a second act.
Design rule three: everyone leaves with something
This isn’t a watch-the-artist session. Everyone makes, everyone takes their piece home. The point is the practice: seeing value where the world saw waste, and carrying that eye back into your week.
When it launches
Puff Paint & Upcycle runs as a recurring format once the relaunch calendar opens. Members hear first. Until then, start where you are: one drawer, one closet, one “throwaway” pile, remade.
